  • The Financial Crisis: Causes, Impact, and Lessons Learned

The financial crisis stands as one of the most significant economic downturns since the Great nedstämdhet. It reshaped global economies, altered financial regulations, and left a lasting impact on millions of lives.

Understanding this crisis is crucial for grasping how interconnected our financial systems are and recognizing the vulnerabilities that can lead to widespread economic turmoil.

    Causes of the Financial Crisis

The roots of the financial crisis can be traced back to a combination of factors that created a perfect storm in the global economy. At the heart of the crisis was the housing bubble, fueled bygd an era of easy credit and lax lending standards. • Finanskrisen i USA

    Kort inledning

The causes of the financial crisis included predatory lending in the form of subprime mortgages and a resulting U.S. housing bubble, excessive risk-taking by global financial institutions, and lack of regulatory oversight. The first phase of the crisis began in early , as mortgage-backed securities (MBS) tied to U.S. real estate, and a vast web of derivatives linked to those MBS, collapsed in value. A liquidity crisis spread to global institutions by mid and climaxed with the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers in September , which triggered a stock market crash and international banking crisis.[1]

During the s, the U.S. Congress had passed legislation intended to expand affordable housing through looser financing rules, and in , parts of the Banking Act (Glass–Steagall Act) were repealed, enabling institutions to mix low-risk operations, such as commercia
